i just want to say a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been involved in my musical journey for the last 20 years. what a crazy trip it’s been!
it all started when i dropped out of law school to take up a dj residence in a coffee shop called wu’s and a sunday night at a local club playing trip hop & jungle . . . much to the anguish of my parents. since then it’s been a radical rollercoaster ride… for those of you just starting out in this game, know that time flies quickly, so make the most of it!
right now i’m off on another journey which will take me away from music for a while. meditation is another passion of which has been quietly growing in the background for the last ten years and which i can no longer ignore. so as with everything i do, i’m throwing myself whole heartedly into it and heading off to do a long course of meditation training in sri lanka with some buddhist monks.
this website will self-destruct sometime in september, so make the most of plundering all the music on it in the meantime.
love to you all of you, i’m out. in the words of the immortal douglas adams, “so long and thanks for all the fish.”
i am very excited to release i music video i have been working on for a while. it features two of cape town’s finest beatboxers and a whole lot of face paint.
i think you will like and share many many times ; )
if you want to see some behind the scenes action and how the video was made, look no further
i always get requests from people that can’t make it to these gigs to please record the set so they can enjoy the music in the comfort of their own living room, where there’s enough elbow room to have a wild boogie without knocking anyone over.
well, this one’s for you . . . almost two hours of natural vibes for your listening pleasure.
here’s a live recording of last night’s gig at vice city. a new club opens, a new soundsytem needs to be broken in. this sunday bass nite certainly got off to a good start!
the mix starts off deep and dubby, get’s rude and bass heavy about half an hour in and then into some dope drum & bass bizinz towards the end. the ou’s from joburg asked me to please post it, so here it is. . .
here’s a track i made with a new kid on the block, 16 year old siddhi aka omri dahan.
he was in the middle east recently and came back with these amazing samples of israeli musicians which he recorded around the fireside one evening in the desert. the featured instrument is a tar played by the renowned peretz elyiahu.
dont tell anyone, but i have a secret fetish for old western soundtracks. of course i like to send them through my glitch machines and see what happens next.
here’s a little remix of the classic cowboy tv series, rawhide, in which a young clint eastwood made his name in the 1960’s. i think i just accidentally invented a new genre called cowboy glitch . . . remember where you heard it first ; )

renegade bingo is one of those mad gigs where anything can happen. i only know bingo as something grannies at church were into in the 80’s. this is anything but. difficult to describe a hall full of fancy dressed lunatics playing bingo with substance fuelled abandon. and this halloween edition looked like a scene from a gameshow in hell.
mixing was a little challenging sometimes. the dj box was exposed to the halloween hordes of hades, so there was the obligatory guy pouring his drink onto the equipment, the bedroom house dj chick who came up every 5 minutes to suggest another 5fm top 40 hit that would REALLY get the party going, a coven of drunken nurse corpses moshing into the dj box. you get the idea. i make no excuses for some of the poor mixes, sh** was going down!
expect one and a half hours pure of randomness: glitch hop, electro swing, brazillian bass, country & western, cumbia, moombahton, malian blues, drum & bass, dodgy remixes, lots of cheese and not all of it mature. it was that kinda jol.
if you want more of this kinda thing in your life, join their facebook group. tickets sell out quickly so remember to get yours early.
a hilarious video remix of classic 1980’s computer show bits & bytes. learn how to make music with your basic micro-computer!
this remix demonstrates one of my favourite hidden features of ableton live – the ability to cut up and stretch video into time with an audio track.
for more video remixes and mashups, check out krushed & sorted’s youtube channel.
i found this little 15 minute gem while cleaning up an old hard drive. it’s a recording from the red bull 3style dj competition which took place at the alexander theatre in jozi sometime in 2012. the competition is all about dj’s mixing up three different style in 15 minutes. i put together a hyped up selection of classic hip hop, dancehall and glitch for the night. it’s flippin banging! i just had a little boogie around the lounge. i forgot about some of these bootlegs and mashups i made for the night.
congrats to tha cutt who won the competition on the night and went to represent south africa at the finals in chicago.
take a listen, download from soundcloud and feel free to share the love.

great tunes by crosby, quite a white ou feat teba, zoro, izajah korianda, daddy spencer and ginger cobra. the album artwork is a local graffiti piece by buntu fihla aka @bief37. please feel free to download this riddim, share it with your friends and family, and support the artists who have made this incredible ‘for the love’ project possible.
check out this latest music video from mzantsi’s own blackest white boy, quite a white ou, featuring a stellar performance from teba shumba. it’s great to produce music for such talented and relevant artists.
in this tune they engage more with social commentary and politics compared to the straight humour of his first vid.
the ableton university tour took place in cape town on 17 may 2014 at uct school of music in association with ableton live and tuerk music.
in this demonstration, we created a track entirely out of “found sounds” in the lecture room, sounds recorded from the audience and dropped onto the simpler instrument with some basic audio and midi effects. all the common instrument and effect controls are mapped to macros for ease of use with your push, apc40, or other control surface.
the track is called loopy fruits because most of the instruments were made from the word “fruit”, which was a member of the audience’s response when asked what he had for breakfast.
please feel free to use these devices and sounds in your own projects, if you make something interesting out of them, i would love to hear how this demonstration has inspired you. please send me a link via the contact form on the website. enjoy.

it’s with great pleasure that i announce the release of my new album. the project is called dhamma baby and the album is called laughing buddha bass and it’s your for free. after 2 years in the studio i’m finally happy with the finished product and i’d love to share it with you. so go on, don’t be shy, download it right now!
thanks to pete woo for the amazing artwork.
the first part is 74 minutes of deep space dub music, subsonic rumblings, glitched out melodies and frequencies from other dimensions. laughing buddha bass by dhamma baby part 2 is something a little unusual. with this recording you can learn the ancient mediation technique of feeling the touch of your breath, otherwise known as anapana sati. meditation has become a huge part of my life and i would like to share this with you. learn how to meditate by feeling the touch of your breath by dhamma baby i hope this music and the meditation gives you as much as pleasure as it has given me!

i had an opportunity to jump up onto stage at rocking the daisies when another dj’s laptop died all of a sudden, oops! anyway, here’s some random dubstep, mashups and glitch hop that got pulled out of the bag for this impromptu set.
two of africa’s heavyweight dub champions take a once in a life-time adventure into the deep realms of dub. follow these two cape town audio-nauts on their escapade of spliffs and blips, as they journey from the deepest subsonic worlds to the land of psychedelic space echoes. fasten your sub and enjoy the ride.
music written & produced by fletcher & yves. mastered by matt @ timecode. wicked artwork handmade by luis tolosana.
here’s my live dub set at ‘a taste of sonar’ in cape town. it was a wicked nite for me, i got to meet massive attack and modeselektor. but most importantly for me, i remembered to hit record before i started playing. i was the warmup for the evening so the mix starts from complete ambience and builds in intensity towards some heavy bass riddims. enjoy the deep dubs.
there is absolutely no point listening to this mix on your laptop speakers cos most of my basslines are subsonic. do yourself a favour and plug into a good pair of speakers.
to download from soundcloud, just click the little down arrow on the player. couldn’t be easier.
filastine is an interesting guy. what you might call a nomadic sonic terrorist. he travels the planet playing over 100 gigs a year dropping a heavy mixture of bass and eclectic global sounds with politically provocative video material. when i saw him live at a festival in reunion isalnd, he destroyed a shopping trolley on stage, mic’ed up as giant percussion instrument. he does not hold back when it comes to his socio-political views. the resulting cocktail is a heady brew of beat science and counter-cultutre propoganda. right up my street.
i was stoked when filastine approached me to do this remix for him, a track off his new album. the video was made at the sites of large scale natural disasters across asia. you can read all about the story here. it’s real.
my idea for the remix was to create my dub version to the original music video. i.e. use the original structure, but build and sound design my own tapestry of noise around the images. i would love to do more of this kind of hybrid remix / composing to video work.
