the grrrl

the grrrl

inka kendzia aka the grrrl is an award winning animation director by day and transforms herself into a vj extraordinaire under the cloak of darkness. her company MEME is busy round the clock with aftereffects animation wizardry for a client list that looks like the fortune 500. by night, she supplies visual stimulation for the who’s who of south african bands and touring international dj’s. somewhere in between she walks her dog, akira. she is a natural storyteller with a wild imagination. when i first met inka, she used to lug around 2 huge crates of VHS tapes, weighing more than she did, accompanying all african dope artists on their european tours. i’m sure she’s much happier with a mac and midi controller nowadays.

ed is an amazing artist. he draws things with his hands and then manipulates them beyond recognition in the digital world. he’s travelled all over the planet on a physical level. he’s also traversed the dimensions thru shamanic plants. he’s been to places you don’t even know exist and brought them back as art. he made all the album artwork for fletcher in dub. most certainly a very interesting guy to talk to. for a headtrip, check out his website and more here.

rowan is one of those guys who is so passionate about his work that it’s contagious, whether it’s behind the camera, in the editing suite, or on location somewhere in africa. i’ve had the pleasure of working on quite a few projects with him over the years and it’s always so refreshing to meet a director who’s a real human being, interested in real human stories, without hollywood flashing behind their eyes. his company, makhulu productions, does great work with a small team of dedicated individuals. check out his vimeo channel and this interview with him. its not often you get to see film makers in front of the camera.
